Sweet Charity
June 6, 2010 – hometownlife.com – As part of Hiller's Markets Good Deeds in the Making program to benefit local charities during these challenging economic times, the family-owned chain of seven metro grocery stores is donating all of the profits from the sales of its Cherry Pecan Chicken Salad to Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan, throughout the month of June.

This salad is made with all-natural skinless chicken breasts, Michigan dried cherries and roasted pecans in a creamy dressing. It is carried in all Hiller's Markets, including the location on 12 Mile between Greenfield and Coolidge in Berkley.

Jan Barker, CEO of Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan, said, “Hiller's support will help us bring Girl Scouting to girls who would not otherwise be able to enjoy these character-building benefits.” Barker also emphasized that Girl Scout outreach programs included girls who were living in homeless shelters whose families were in transition.

Hiller's Good Deeds in the Making program was created last year as a way to inspire consumers to purchase high-quality, ready-to-eat meals while helping good causes in their communities.

Founded in 1941, Southfield-based Hiller's Markets showcases Michigan products with special shelf tags and partners with charities and organizations through cash register campaigns, Scrip partnerships and many other collaborative community campaigns. Hiller's Markets are located in Ann Arbor, Berkley, Commerce Township, Northville, Plymouth, Union Lake and West Bloomfield.
