April 27, 2010 – Crain's Detroit Business by Daniel Duggan – The Hiller’s Market in Ann Arbor will be holding an event Sunday
to showcase food made in Michigan.
The “Made-in-Michigan Food Fair,” will feature 25 Michigan-based food companies, according to a company announcement. Jim Hiller, CEO of the Southfield-based chain of seven grocery stores said the event is meant to encourage people to buy food from their home state. “Finding, nurturing and emphasizing Michigan products is not only good for Michigan and its welfare but good for me and all of the Hiller's employees, too,” Hiller said in a statement. “My personal mantra is that we are all responsible for our own salvation. Together we can lift this state from the economic doldrums.” The Pigeon-based Cooperative Elevator Co., for example, is a vendor at the fair, and represents 963 Michigan farmers. The company produces white wheat, red wheat and many varieties of dried beans. It also makes dry corn, which is converted into ethanol fuel. Other vendors involved are Ferndale-based Garden Fresh Gourmet Inc., Dearborn-based Dearborn Ham, Holland-based Hudsonville Ice Cream, Northville-based Guernsey Farms Dairy and Ann Arbor-based Iceni Tea L.L.C. The event will be held Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Hiller’s market in Ann Arbor at 3615 Washtenaw Ave. Click here to view this article at crainsdetroit.com |
