SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – Give a man a fish, he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he eats for a lifetime. In tough times, Michigan residents are adding new kitchen skills to their repertoire in an effort to cut costs, eat well and gather around the family table without worry. This summer, Hiller’s Homemade in-store samplings will show shoppers how to get the most bang for their grocery buck and make great food at the same time. Join Hiller’s Executive Chef Peter Julian this summer at Hiller’s Markets for Hiller’s Homemade Saturday Samplings! (Free of charge) Cooking and Conversation with Chef Pete at 12, 1 and 2 p.m. on the following dates:“You don’t have to sacrifice quality, flavor or nutrition to save money,” says Julian. “The answer is really getting back to basics – the more we make from scratch, the more we can save money AND use quality, health-promoting ingredients. This summer, it’s my mission to empower shoppers to spend less and eat better.” Hiller’s Markets operates seven stores in metro Detroit. In addition to premier quality fruits, vegetables, meat, fish and pantry items, Hiller’s has an impressive selection of gourmet food items from around the corner and around the globe. The Hiller’s Michigan Initiative, launched in 2008, has transformed the local grocery business by emphasizing products made and grown in the state of Michigan and collaborating with other local businesses to rebuild our economy. The Hiller’s difference is that superior quality is offered at a low price. “Today, our number one job at Hiller’s is to continue to provide the finest quality and service but at new low low prices,” proclaims Jim Hiller, CEO of the family-owned company. “We are responsible for our own salvation – and by focusing on healthy, delicious meals for under $10, we will all benefit, in so many ways.” Among its seven stores, which are located in Ann Arbor, Berkley, West Bloomfield, Commerce Township, Union Lake, Northville and Plymouth, Hiller’s offers a wide variety of foods for specialty customer populations including those with nut, dairy and wheat allergies, as well as people who follow kosher and gluten-free diets.
