Hiller's Donating Profits from Chopped Fresh Salad to ALS of Michigan |
July 26, 2010 – As part of Hiller’s Markets Good Deeds in the Making program to benefit local charities during these challenging economic times, the family-owned chain of seven metro Detroit grocery stores will proudly donate 100% of the profits from the sales of its popular Chopped Fresh Salad to ALS of Michigan throughout the month of August. This delicious blend of nine freshly chopped vegetables combined with sweet and sour dressing can be enjoyed as an entrée, side salad or topping. The product retails for $6.59 per pound at all Hiller's locations.
Hiller’s Good Deeds in the Making program was created last year as a way to inspire consumers to purchase high-quality, ready-to-eat, great-tasting meals while helping good causes in their communities. This month’s charity, ALS of Michigan, is dedicated to the fight against ALS, which is commonly referred to as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease.” As described on the charity's web site, the organization serves “pALS (people with ALS) and their families in the state of Michigan through a variety of programs including: Referrals and Resource Guides, Workshops & Seminars, Equipment Loan Closet, Augmentative & Alternative Communication Center, Home Visits, Peer Counseling, Support Groups, and Respite Care Services (in certain areas)."
Hiller’s CEO Jim Hiller is particularly passionate about this cause. “Having watched my mother ravished by ALS, I know the value of an organization like ALS of Michigan and its director, Sue Burstein-Kahn," Hiller said. "During the darkest times, just knowing ALS of Michigan was there to help made all the difference. I’m especially proud to have ALS of Michigan as our Good Deeds partner in August."
ALS of Michigan Executive Director Sue Burstein-Kahn added, “Jim and Hiller's Markets are a huge supporter of our cause and they have been extremely generous. Words cannot express our gratitude for all they've done for Michigan's ALS community, supporting both research and patient services.”
