HELP A GIRL SCOUT... GIVE CHICKEN SALAD A SHOUT!
May 27, 2010 – Hiller's Market to donate 100% of the profits from Cherry Pecan Chicken Salad to Girls Scouts Heart of Michigan during June.

girl-scouts-small.jpgAs part of Hiller’s Markets Good Deeds in the Making program to benefit local charities during these challenging economic times, the family-owned chain of seven metro Detroit grocery stores will proudly donate 100% of the profits from the sales of its Cherry Pecan Chicken Salad to Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan, throughout the month of June.  This delicious salad is made with all-natural skinless chicken breasts, Michigan dried cherries and roasted pecans in a creamy dressing.  It is carried in all Hiller’s Markets and is priced at $5.99 per pound.

Jan Barker, CEO of Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan, said, “We are very grateful to Hiller’s for helping us build girls of courage, confidence and character. Hiller’s support will help us bring Girl Scouting to girls who would not otherwise be able to enjoy these character-building benefits.”  Barker also emphasized that Girl Scout outreach programs included girls who were living in homeless shelters whose families were in transition.

Hiller’s Good Deeds in the Making program was created last year as a way to inspire consumers to purchase high-quality, ready-to-eat meals while helping good causes in their communities.  This month’s charity, Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan, has over 25,000 members who learn to discover their strengths and make the world a better place. They participate in camps, local events and learn new skills. One program, BrainSTEM, inspires girls to experience Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), because, while women make up approximately 50 percent of the US workforce, only nine percent pursue careers in science and engineering.

“Girl Scouts empowers girls to be strong individuals and teaches great character traits, something Hiller’s truly believes benefits our society,” says Jim Hiller, Hiller’s Markets CEO.  “We are very proud to assist this wonderful organization and the important values and skills it teaches our young women.”
