Recipe Ingredients1 t. yeast3 c. flour – 1.5 cups all-purpose or bread flour and 1.5 cups whole wheat flour (may also use white whole wheat or whole wheat pastry flour for entire amount) 2 t. salt 1-1 ¼ c. water 2 T. plus 1 t. olive oil toppings of your choice DirectionsCrust: At least one hour before you want to eat, but as far in advance as you want, make the dough. (Let it rise for at least an hour – it can rise all day, in the refrigerator or on the counter. You can also make the dough then freeze it for later use.) Combine yeast, flour and salt in a food processor. Turn machine on and add 1 cup water and 2 T. oil through the feed tube. Process until the mixture forms a ball and is slightly sticky. Turn dough onto a floured work surface and knead a few seconds to form a smooth, round ball. Grease a bowl with the remaining olive oil and place dough in it. Cover with plastic wrap or a kitchen towel and let rise until dough doubles in size. To make pizza: Roll out dough, either with a rolling pin or by hand. Place on pizza stone or cookie sheet. Spread pizza sauce over the dough and sprinkle shredded cheese on top. Add toppings. Bake at 450° F, until crust is golden and cheese is bubbly. Tip: Let kids stand at the counter and make their own individual pizzas. Give each child a bowl of sauce and a spoon, their own portion of cheese, and a selection of toppings. |
