Southfield, MI, May 7, 2008 - Hiller's Markets - a local family-owned chain of independent supermarkets - today announced the opening of its newest store at 3010 Union Lake Road just south of Commerce Road in Commerce Township, (248) 363-8718, (www.hillers.com). At the site of a former Farmer Jack, the new 50,000 sq. ft. supermarket caters to everyday, gourmet and "on-the-go" shoppers and harbors pleasant surprises around nearly every corner. The store design draws from a lifestyle approach to shopping, integrating products in categories like "Gluten-Free" and "Peanut-Free" among their regular counterparts. Hiller's vast wine selection is grouped by taste, from light and delicate to big and bold, allowing tasters to explore based on favorite palate preferences. The store boasts a turn-of-the-century Sanders' Ice Cream Parlor, complete with red stools and period lighting fixtures at the old-fashioned soda fountain counter. Prepared foods are the highlight of the 'Captain's Table.' The 'Captain's Table' offers more than 150 prepared dishes displayed in elegant circular glass cases positioned over polished hardwood floors. Adjacent seating allows shoppers the opportunity to dine-in. Recipes on the menu rotate daily. Several of the dishes are the original creations of Hiller's own Director of Specialty Foods, Rick Halberg, the former restaurant owner/chef of Emily's in Northville and Tutto Bene in Farmington Hills. Additional features include: a 24' x 16' walk-in beer cooler - kept at a chilly 32 degrees all year long; a Glacier Water 'Bottle Your Own Center', allowing customers to deliver great tasting water into their own bottles and helping the environment at the same time; more than 36 flavors of Leelanau Coffee; 80-ft. of hummus; 50 kinds of BBQ sauce; and a wild game locker complete with Alligator, Quail and Wild Buffalo meats. A store-with-in a store, stationery shoppers of fine paper products will be pleased to discover Hiller's new 'Papyrus Studio'. The extensive collection of Papyrus paper products, from gift bags and wrapping paper to greeting cards and ribbons is housed in an array of elegant wood cabinets near the center of the store. "Hiller's believes its customers deserve the very best in service and selection and should be able to find it in one place," said Jim Hiller, president of Hiller's Markets. "We're eager and excited to share this philosophy our new neighbors in Union Lake and Commerce." The seventh location for the company, the new store is expected to generate approximately 125 new jobs for area residents. Sidney Hiller started Hiller's as a details-focused butcher shop in 1941 in Detroit. When his son Jim took over the business in the 1980s, he continued the 'treat-customers-like-family' service, while upgrading the stores to one-stop-shopping for everyone's needs. Today, the company offers the largest selection of gourmet, natural, specialty, ethnic, gluten-free and kosher items. Based in Southfield, Mich., Hiller's seven stores represent the best of the Hiller's brand, which stands for authenticity, quality, and the way things should be. ### |
