
| 'Fresh' is really more like a smirk |

While Metro Detroiters welcome the return of Velvet Peanut Butter after a 23-year hiatus, some consumers remain curious about one of the expressions of the boy on the beloved brand's familiar yellow label. The boy grimaces next to each word of the brand's pledge: Fresh. Pure. Delicious. Buying a jar at Hiller's Market in Berkley this week, Lori Ludington of Huntington Woods recalled being confused as a youngster by the smirk on the boy's face next to "Fresh." His expression seemed to say "sassy," rather than "fresh," as in fresh ingredients. Norbie Zuckerman, son of Velvet's founder and the model for the boy, admits his boyhood antics may have contributed to the devilish grin.
