Do the most good this week starting at Hiller’s Markets |
Hiller’s is hosting a special food and personal care items drive as part
of The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit’s “Doing the Most Good” week.
This Friday, May 14, is “Doing the Most Good” for the hungry day, but
all this week Hiller’s Markets is encouraging its loyal customers to buy
an extra non-perishable food item or two – a can of beans or tuna, a
box of pasta, some peanut butter, shampoo or soap - and drop it into a
designated shopping cart at their local Hiller’s store. The proceeds
will benefit The Salvation Army Corps Community Centers in Plymouth,
Royal Oak and Pontiac and six metro Detroit Hiller’s Markets (Berkley,
Commerce Township, Northville, Plymouth, Union Lake and West Bloomfield)
will be taking part.
“Too many in our community don’t know where there next meal will come
from,” said Jim Hiller, CEO of Hiller’s Markets. “We are proud to team
up with The Salvation Army to get food onto the plates of those in need.
I know that our generous shoppers will rise to this challenge.”
Major John Turner, general secretary of The Salvation Army Eastern
Michigan Division, added: “Doing the Most Good Week is a time for
everyone to make a stronger commitment to helping those in need, an
important sentiment for those struggling in metro Detroit.”
Other “Doing the Most Good” days this week will be targeted at helping
neighbors, children living in shelters, disaster victims, military
servicemen and more.
The Salvation Army’s campaign is also encouraging random acts of
kindness, such as opening the door for someone, greeting people with a
friendly smile or offering words of encouragement.
Pick up a few extra supplies at Hiller’s Markets and you won’t just be
doing the most good, you’ll feel good, too.
