A few upcoming Hiller’s programs will give shoppers the opportunity to learn more about eating for good health. This week, two days of tea tastings at our Commerce Township and Ann Arbor stores will introduce Hiller’s shoppers to the knowledge that drinking at least one cup of freshly-brewed tea daily promotes illness resistance. Tea contains antioxidants called polyphenols, which may reduce heart attacks, protect against certain cancers, reduce arthritis inflammation and improve bone mineral density. At Hiller’s Tea Tastings: February 7-8, 11 a.m.-4 p.m., learn how to steep loose tea from two local artisan companies, ONO Tea and Community Tea House. Plus, the Hiller’s British and Japanese foods buyers, Lynette Kidd and Kyoko Watanabe, will demonstrate the fine art of tea in their respective nations. An estimated one in three American adults suffers from cardiovascular disease, including high blood pressure, stroke and coronary heart disease. Among other steps you can take to make heart-healthy dishes at home, consider the following:
Hiller’s Markets Executive chef Peter Julian will demonstrate heart-healthy cooking on FOX 2, Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009 during the 11 a.m. local news hour and the following day, Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009, 12:30 p.m., at Orchard Mall’s Center Court, in collaboration with Beaumont Hospital. “Hiller’s has always been a company with a conscience,” says Jim Hiller, CEO of Hiller’s Markets. “I will never sell fish from murky farms in China or produce grown in valleys where cattle run-off creates the very real risk of bacterial contamination. Every person in my company purchases grocery products with the kind of attention to detail that ensures that you receive only the highest quality foods in town.” Eat for Your Health (from Harvard School of Public Health)
